I have no idea why I am so completely tired tonight. Like collapse on the couch, barely-keeping-my-eyelids open tired. (Although Earl the pug did wake me up at 5:57 a.m. when he started roaming around our bedroom, making his usual pug snorting and heavy breathing sounds, apparently believing – and wrongly so – that it was time for breakfast.)

For the record, the dog did get fed and I did go back to sleep for a couple of hours, but I don’t think it was a good sleep, you know?

Anyway, despite my low energy level, I did go for a run this afternoon in a t-shirt – no jacket required. In Minnesota. On November 16. This is typically crazy talk, but it was 60 degrees and sunny and gorgeous. My neighbor was putting up his Christmas lights, as was every other neighbor I saw. I mentioned it to Teacher Man and then we both looked at each other and said simultaneously no way – it’s too early. Our neighbor is likely smarter and I’m sure now that we made this decision to not put up our Christmas lights today, it will be 10 degrees out when we get around to it after Thanksgiving.

Minnesota’s weather karma is like that.

And speaking of being tired and possibly cranky, I had this conversation with Joe while he was practicing percussion tonight and I was sitting on the couch, head in my hands because I may have been just slightly frustrated that he waited until Sunday night to practice:

  • Joe: Mom, you know you can do something on your computer while I’m practicing.
  • Me: I’m choosing to support you while you are practicing.
  • Joe: You’d support me better if you’d do something on your computer and be in a better mood.

Smarty pants. 😉

In the meantime, a few snapshots from my weekend:

Minnesota turkeys | via MyOtherMoreExcitingSelf.comThis has nothing to with the current weekend, only I was looking through my Timehop app and I had a bazillion photos (give or take) of turkeys from a media event I coordinated eight years ago for the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association. Which reminded me that Thanksgiving is in less than two weeks away. Which elicited a shocked gasp. Seriously?

Pug scarf | MyOtherMoreExcitingSelf.com

This pug scarf was a surprise gift from a friend and neighbor of mine. Our sons are good friends so we often call them “Brothers from Different Mothers”. I am so lucky to have such thoughtful neighbors in my life – and my son’s. 🙂

Hayes Public House | via MyOtherMoreExcitingSelf.comI thoroughly enjoyed a Saturday afternoon date with Teacher Man at Hayes Public House, a brewery and taproom in our little town of Buffalo.

Hayes Public House | via MyOtherMoreExcitingSelf.comAnother view of the brewery with Buffalo Lake in the background – and a little eye candy courtesy of the Porsche too – which is most definitely not our car, by the way.

Buffalo Nickel Antique Barn | via MyOtherMoreExcitingSelf.comI also talked Teacher Man into stopping at the Buffalo Nickel Antique Barn – an institution in Buffalo. (Locals just call it “The Barn” and everyone knows where it is.) It was all decked out for the holidays!Paris necklace | via MyOtherMoreExcitingSelf.comI posted this photo on Instagram and Facebook on Saturday, showing the Paris necklace Teacher Man bought me last year for our 15th anniversary. It signifies my favorite part of our honeymoon to Europe.

Paris is a special place for me and I’ve been back twice since our honeymoon. I am always, allways captivated by Paris and plan to go back someday with Joe to show him all the beautiful, historical sites.

I think, like most of us, I couldn’t stop thinking about the terrorist attacks in Paris and also Kenya and Beirut. It can feel like a scary, scary world we live in, and so I hugged my family a little closer this weekend and sent a prayer – not only for Paris but for our world.

And soon we’ll be off and running on another Monday – back to school and back to work. I hope you will stop by the blog again for Turkey Tuesday, when I will share that I roasted a turkey over the weekend – yes, less than two weeks before Thanksgiving. ðŸ™‚
