Spicy turkey sloppy joes or spicy turkey barbecues? Which team are you on?
I say barbecues more – but then I’ll slip in a sloppy joe reference for no reason, so I guess I’m conflicted. 😉
I’m not conflicted on how delicious and flavorful this particular recipe from Jennie-O Turkey is, though. I made a double batch last Friday night and then stuck the whole works in the crockpot on Saturday morning to heat up slowly and be ready for lunch. We had my parents over for lunch before Joe’s piano recital, but it had to be a relatively easy lunch as we were 1) making lefse on a schedule while 2) also watching our almost 2-year-old niece at the same time.
Yep, it was a little crazy at our house!
The sloppy joes (barbecues?) were a big hit – full of flavor with the red peppers, onion and garlic, and not too spicy. (In other words, don’t let the title or the hot pepper sauce scare you off. Turkey can handle a lot of spice and this recipe was just the right amount. Or, if you prefer more spice, then by all means up the amount of hot pepper sauce to your liking.)
Make it a great Tuesday, friends – and remember, #serveturkey!
