My Garden Journey: Blooms, Vegetables, and Writing Again

So it’s been much more than a hot minute since I’ve actually posted some writing here. I am terribly sorry. I have no excuse. I do, however, have the latest scenes from the garden to show you and for that, I hope you will forgive me.

Is it actually almost July?

I can hardly believe it’s nearly July, actually. Is anyone else in denial? It’s clear by the asiatic lilies going absolutely bonkers and the containers starting to show-off, however, that it does appear that we’re about to enter mid-summer. If you’re from Minnesota, then you know this also means it’s a slippery slope all the way to September, the State Fair, and fall and sweater weather. Yikes.

But before I get ahead of myself, let’s take a look at the flowers right now, shall we?

Behold, beautiful Marlene, an asiatic lily that stuns — and as long as the wind and/or rain isn’t too crazy, will stay pretty upright with the help of some supports.

Containers, a shrub rose (‘Music Box’) and a new hydrangea (‘Summer Crush’).

It was a busy (busy, BUSY) spring for me but gratefully, my work travel was timed well enough so that I could get my planting done and enjoy the blooms. If you know me, then you know I dislike work travel in the summer if it interferes with my gardening – ha!

Vegetable Gardens … You’re Next

Now I’m keeping an eye on my vegetable beds, which are really starting to take off. I planted the usual tomatoes, onions, carrots (which are not doing well, weirdly), lettuce, and radishes. Plus, I added leeks, shallots, celery, two kinds of hot peppers, zucchini, summer squash, and a regal purple cauliflower plant that is already huge. Photos of all of this to come soon!

Gardening is Good for the Soul

Is there anything better than strolling around the gardens each day, checking out what’s new, what’s blooming, what weeds need to be pulled? It’s my favorite, and I swear my stress level drops dramatically as soon as I do this.

Let’s hope I can keep this writing thing going a little better than the past year. I really do love to share with you all and I’ve missed it!

    1. Diane,

It is so lovely to hear from you and it makes me happy that you enjoyed my little garden tour. There will be more to come as not only is gardening good for my soul, but a little writing is too. 🙂 Take care!
