The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.

– Alfred Austin

My perennial flowers are loving this late summer heat wave, as long as I give them a drink of water (or two) every day. And my cute little garden gnome stands watch over the succulents on my deck. This little guy makes me smile, but I think of my mom almost every time I look at him. She, as I have mentioned before, is a big-time gardener but she doesn’t like garden gnomes at all, which I find humorous.

Before long, this heat wave will be gone, the leaves of our trees and shrubs will start turning colors in earnest, and I will be putting the garden to bed for the (ack!) winter. But for now, I take my nightly walk around my gardens and I think it truly does feed my soul.
