The Lilacs are Blooming!

The lilacs are blooming! The lilacs are blooming!

It feels a bit like a Christmas miracle around here. The long winter. The April blizzard. The constant rain in May. The unusually cool temperatures.

But lo and behold, the lilacs are back in their glory.

Praise be.

The gardens are — finally! — looking more alive and more green every day, actually. I also have most of my containers planted. (Although to be honest, there will always be more containers. I say I’m going to cut back this year. We have a two-week trip to Europe planned in late July/early August, for goodness sake. But frankly that won’t stop my container gardening. I know how I am.)

I love this time of year. The hostas are sprouting and the slugs aren’t an issue yet. The hydrangeas are starting to leaf out. The garlic is growing like crazy and the veggies are just starting to get their legs.

Behold, it’s gardening season in Minnesota!
